Skyfire 1.0 web browser now available for most platforms!

“After a lengthy (but evidently productive) beta period, the Skyfire (cross-platform) web browser has now been released as a full v1.0. You may remember that Skyfire, like Opera Mini, is a proxy-based browser, in that all web content is parsed and compressed before making its way to your phone, saving time and bandwidth. Skyfire’s main advantages over Opera Mini are that it offers full multimedia (including Silverlight, Flash video, RealMedia, etc) and Ajax support, meaning that it should work with just about any web site. Skyfire’s Raj Singh claims that Skyfire have effectively reduced ‘click fear’. Read on for screens, what’s new, videos and some useful links.” Read more here:

Further Traveling with Pharos — the Traveler 127 reviewed

Posted by admin Under mobile on Wednesday May 27, 2009

Sample Windows Mobile Widget

Keyboard locking has become one of my must have features lately and I’ve used a number of units where you lock the keyboard by pressing and holding the ‘end call’ button. I have to admit that I quite prefer having the positive feedback of a lock switch. When you slide the button to the right (in the photo above), the button stays there, and the T127 becomes locked. The screen turns off and it will not accept input from any of the keys, except the call pickup button when a call comes in. When you want to re-activate the unit, you slide the button all the way to the left (right, if you’re looking at the screen) and you’re back in business.
Unfortunately, this didn’t always work as it was supposed to. About 30% of the time, the unit refused to turn back on after being locked. I’m not sure if this is related to the installation of Spb Mobile Menu, but quite a few times I wasn’t able to get the screen to turn on, no matter how I played with the Power On button. I eventually had to soft-reset the unit to get things running again.”

Sprint Palm Pre Business Guide Leaked

Posted by admin Under mobile on Tuesday May 26, 2009

“Sprint managed to leak the Pre business launch guide which is totally cool since we get to read more about the Pre. Despite being business-orientated, it’s definitely worth inspecting. Some of the facts described about the Pre are right here:

  • first-party vehicle and travel chargers will be available for $31.99 and $34.99 if you won’t want the Touchstone
  • clear plastic holster available at launch for $24.99
  • leather pouch for $39.99
  • additional phone covers are expected to cost $29.99
  • Individual plans will offer 450 minutes for $69.99, 900 minutes for $89.99, all with unlimited data
  • Simply Everything unlimited plans for $99.99 with unlimited data
  • SERO plans will not be compatible with the Pre
  • similar plans for the iPhone 3G, Storm, and G1 will cost $149.99, $158.98 and $124.99
  • the Pre is an exchange phone only due to its design; you break it and you won’t have it repaired but rather replaced. So no refurbished Pres anytime soon?
  • ten flagship stores will host invite-only VIP launch events on June 5. Is this what we have seen on Sprint’s online store?
  • support for Office documents will be available at launch, built into the ROM
  • Palm Profile creation is absolutely required for phone usage.
  • Synchronization to multiple Exchange accounts is available.
  • remote wipe capability will be available at launch; hence the need of a Palm Profile” via mobilewhack.com

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic gets Flash Lite 3.1 update

Posted by admin Under mobile on Monday May 25, 2009

“Firing the built-in App. Update on the 5800 XpressMusic will come up with a mysterious Flash Lite 3.1 Update. Mysterious in the sense that this is the first time I see Flash Lite, a core part of the OS, being updated outside the regular firmware update. Usually this kind of stuff is imbedded in the new firmware. Could this be  a start to quicker and more frequent updates to Flash Lite and or other components? We’ll be reporting soon if and when we see notable changes.
According to the Adobe Flash Lite site, version 3.1 brings the following changes:
  • Improved Web Browsing, 91% of top 500 internet sites.
  • Flash 9 (AS2 only) support
  • Local Connection / HTML Text / GetURL_target / CSS support / WMode
  • H.264 support / Improved video support (smoothing, seek)
  • Improved memory handling for images
  • MP3 Streaming support
  • Support for hardware acceleration — Flash Lite 3.1 supports OpenVG 1.1 to improve flash rendering performance on capable devices.
  • Linux Reference port” via thenokiaguide.com
